Halloween Crochet Bunting Flag Banner FREE PATTERN

Whee!!!! It's my favorite time of year!! I love Halloween and spooky stuff and haunted houses and candy and trick or treating and pumpkins and on and on and on.

Seriously, folks. I can't get enough of Halloween. Someday (on a day after I win the lotto)I want to go spend the entire month (yes, month) in Salem MA. Maybe here:

Or here.

Or maybe even here.

Whatevs. I'm not picky.

Ahhhh there goes the ole ADD again. Would you believe this is a blog post about a crocheted item? Yeah, me neither. So hey.. while I have you here, why don't I share this free pattern with you?
Free? Yes, free. Why? Because Halloween kicks ass, that's why.

ITEMS NEEDED:
Worsted weight yarn in BLACK and ORANGE
5.5mm (I) Crochet Hook
Scissors
Tapestry Needle (for weaving in ends)

To make triangles:
Ch 17

Row 1: Skip first chain, then make 1 hdc in each ch. (16 hdc)
Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (15 hdc)
Row 3: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (14 hdc)

Row 4: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (13 hdc)
Row 5: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (12 hdc)
Row 6: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (11 hdc)
Row 7: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (10 hdc)
Row 8: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (9 hdc)
Row 9: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (8 hdc)
Row 10: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (7 hdc)
Row 11: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (6 hdc)
Row 12: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (5 hdc)
Row 13: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc in ea hdc. (4 hdc)
Row 14: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches, then 1 hdc remaining hdc. (2 hdc)
Row 15: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), 1 hdc-dec over next two stitches. (1 hdc)
Do not fasten off.
Ch 1, then make sc's evenly around the triangle. When you get to the TOP corners, make *1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc* in each corner. When you get to the BOTTOM corner, make 3 sc's in last space. Slip stitch to first sc to join. Weave in ends.
Make 4 black flag and 4 orange flags. Or make ten of each. Or 3 of each. Or other colors. Whatever suits your fancy.
TO JOIN TOGETHER:
With black yarn, chain 5. Slip stitch into first chain to form a circle.
Chain 10.
Grab your first flag and, with RIGHT SIDE facing, insert your hook into that corner chain one space. Yarn over, pull up a loop, and make a regular sc. Make one sc in each sc across top, and a sc in that corner chain one space again. Then, chain ten again and repeat with an orange flag.
Continue in this pattern until you have all your flags attached. When your last flag is attached, CHAIN 15. Slip stitch into the 5TH chain from hook to form a circle. These two end circles are big enough to fit around any nail or tack. Lastly, for a finishing touch, throw some plastic spider rings on there (the ring part fits perfectly around the stitches). Or don't.

TADA!
