Crochet Hacks : How to Make the Invisible Decrease

There are several different ways to decrease stitches in a project when it comes to crochet, but the pickiest form comes in amigurumi. Simply because when you have only 7 or 8 stitches to your round, it leaves very little room for obvious decreases.

Which is why this is my preferred method of decreasing, and I use it for everything, not just amigurumi. Hats, accessories, EVERYTHING! Seriously, I love it. And it's so easy.

It's a shame, really, that decreasing your waist size wasn't this easy. Har har.

Okay, step one is easy. Insert your hook into the next stitch in the front loop only.

Next, without pulling your hook out, insert into the front loop only of the next stitch.
You should have 3 loops on your hook.

Yarn over, and pull through two loops.

Yarn over and pull through remaining two loops.

One single crochet decrease made.

This method works for almost ANY stitch. Half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet, any stitch!!!

I literally just said the same thing in two different ways.
Go, me!

So, there you go. Try it out on your next crochet project! You can thank me later. ;)

One more round of photos, with captions.
Step 1. Insert hook into front loop only of first stitch.

Step 2. Insert hook into front loop only of next stitch.

3 loops on hook

Step 3. Yarn over and pull up through 2 loops.

Step 4. Yarn over and pull through remaining 2 loops. Sc-dec made.
